energy & meteo systems delivers solar and wind power forecasts to the Dominican Republic
After energy & meteo systems had advised GIZ and the transmission system operator OC-SENI (Organismo Coordinador del Sistema Eléctrico Nacional Interconectado) on the forecasting system for solar and wind energy in the Dominican Republic in 2019, the first recommendations are now already being implemented. To this end, GIZ has initiated a second project entitled "Centralized Wind and Solar Power Forecasts", in the course of which OC-SENI will for the first time receive centrally generated power forecasts in addition to the forecasts of wind and solar park operators.
energy & meteo systems, as one of the world's leading forecasting service providers, has also been commissioned by GIZ for this project. With immediate effect, energy & meteo systems will deliver day-ahead and intraday forecasts for a period of twelve months for four solar and nine wind farms with a total capacity of 557 MW to OC-SENI. This is the first time that OC-SENI receives carefully prepared forecasts in uniform quality directly from a forecasting service provider. In addition, OC-SENI can gain valuable experience on the advantages of a central forecasting system in direct comparison with the power forecasts of the individual wind and solar park operators.
The pv magazine published an article about the project on February 7th, 2020:
Dominican Republic launches Solar Power Generation Forecasting Service
pv magazine (Latin America), 7 February 2020 – The grid operator "Coordinating Body of the Interconnected Electric System (OC-SENI)" of the Dominican Republic has announced the launch of the Solar and Wind Power Generation Forecasting Service. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines (MEMRD), the platform was developed by the German company energy & meteo systems.
"With adequate forecasts, based on state-of-the-art technologies, we take control of what would happen in the short, medium and long term with the supply of wind and solar energy, not only to make better use of them but also to meet market demand with strategic and timely responses," said Energy Minister Isa Conde.
The general manager of OC-SENI said that the service allows to receive in advance the hourly estimate of energy production for a horizon of 72 hours.
