Tool for the Planning
of Offshore Service Operations
Information System for near real-time Coordination of Weather and Sea Conditions
Offshore activities are among the toughest and most dangerous at all. To ensure safe, efficient and cost effective use of offshore support vessels in the future, the development of a new planning tool was aimed for. The two-year joint project was funded with around one million euros by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology (BMWi) under the program Central Innovation Program Medium-sized Businesses (ZIM).
The research objective was a comprehensive information system for planning and controlling as well as supporting operational logistics processes in the offshore sector. Besides energy & meteo systems (Oldenburg) the project partners were the BIBA - Bremen Institute for Production and Logistics GmbH at the University of Bremen, Cluetec (Karlsruhe) and the Jade University (Elsfleth).
Within the limits of the 2017 completed project Information system for near real-time coordination of the offshore transport, taking into account resources specifics and dynamic weather and sea conditions energy & meteo systems developed new algorithms to improve the quality of integrated weather and wave forecasts. Both the prediction and real weather as well as sea data were included in a new planning and controlling tool. This should be a guarantee for well-coordinated and cost-effective logistics and thus the economic operation of offshore wind farms.
