Virtual power plant and power forecasts for Greek electricity supplier
In 2020 energy & meteo systems has started to supply its Virtual Power Plant and power forecasts to Protergia, the Power & Gas Business Unit of MYTILINEOS, as a complete IT solution for trading electricity from its renewable energy assets. Protergia is the largest private energy company in Greece. It manages the power plants and renewable energy units of MYTILINEOS and trades and supplies electricity and gas, offering modern and reliable services and combined electricity and gas packages to over 280,000 businesses and households. Protergia operates conventional and renewable power plants with a combined capacity of 1.5 Gigawatt.
As the Greek power market introduced a direct marketing scheme for renewable energy units, Protergia decided to set up its own aggregator as of November 2019. This new business unit trades the power generation from Protergia´s own and from third parties´ solar, wind and hydro power plants on the Greek day ahead and intraday market.
From the beginning, Protergia was convinced of the Virtual Power Plant offered as a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution for digitally connecting the renewable energy units and efficiently monitoring, remote-controlling and trading their power output. For all connected wind and solar power plants, energy & meteo systems delivers precise power forecasts and integrates them into the Virtual Power Plant. This provides Protergia with predictability of the future energy production and reduces the exposure of its portfolio to balancing costs. The Virtual Power Plant has been customized according to Protergia´s needs with our power forecasting and Virtual Power Plant experts providing continuous support.
Equipped with this all-in-one IT solution for aggregators, Protergia can entirely focus on trading the power generation of its renewable energy portfolio on the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx).
