Virtual Power Plant for CNR
fulfills the specific requirements of the French electricity market
energy & meteo systems ability to quickly and flexibly adapt its Virtual Power Plant to customers and market requirements is evidenced by the cooperation with the French electricity generating company Compagnie nationale du Rhône (CNR).
CNR operates several wind and solar parks, in addition to a series of hydroelectric power plants along the Rhône, and is greatly expanding this business field. The direct marketing of wind and solar power is not only assumed by CNR for its own portfolio, it also offers this as a service to other wind and solar plant operators.
The Virtual Power Plant by energy & meteo systems functions as a technical platform for direct marketing. It takes care of the bundling, real-time monitoring and efficient remote control of wind and solar parks depending on price signals from the electricity exchange. Moreover, with an individualized configuration, the Virtual Power Plant can be adapted to meet the specific requirements of the French electricity market. This way, renewable energy portfolios that profit from the new French market premium model can be immediately curtailed in the case of negativ EPEX spot market prices. The Virtual Power Plant for CNR was therefore adjusted in such a way that it automatically powers down wind and solar power production in the case of negative electricity prices.
This project was initiated by the German Energy Agency (DENA) and realized by the Foreign Ministry of Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) as part of the DENA-Renewable-Energy-Solutions promoted program "Energy Export Initiative".
